Wisdom and patience are hard qualities to come by, but as Christ's followers we should strive to have them.
Wisdom is trying at times to hone, but at the same time so simple. God gives us our wisdom as we continue our journey with the Lord, we must yearn for wisdom, sincerely want it so badly that we feel without Godly wisdom we would be nothing. We must pray and ASK for it.
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Proverbs 18:15
An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
So what is this "wisdom" we hear so much about? Wisdom is seeking to live for the Lord with all our souls, all our hearts, all our might. Wisdom is loving to do what is right according to God, sincerely striving not to sin, and having patience knowing God will provide on His own time.
Proverbs 10:23
Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding.
Proverbs 12:15
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.
Ecclesiastes 8:1
Who is like the wise? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.
Proverbs 17:27-28
Whoever restrains his words has knowledge, and he who has a cool spirit is a man of understanding. Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise; when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent.
Proverbs 14:16
One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless.
So as we can see, God tells us that having wisdom is important, smart to have, and foolish to not even want it.
James 3:17
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
Patience is a big part of having Godly wisdom. Without patience we are worrying, we aren't having faith that God will provide, that God will come through with protecting us. Without faith in God we do not have anything.
Psalm 37:7-9
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices! Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil. For the evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land.
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
1 Peter 2:19-23
For this is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. For what credit is it if, when you sin and are beaten for it, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it you endure, this is a gracious thing in the sight of God. For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
Isaiah 40:31
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Romans 5:3
More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
Godly wisdom and patience are imperitive to our faith, our salvation, and our relationship with Christ. Let's try to gain more wisdom and become more patient this year, and let's pray for it, and sincerely yearn for it.
