Psalms 101:3
I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.
When we watch movies with profane language we find the words seeping into our minds and we even find ourselves thinking the words when we get angry, or even saying them. The same goes for music we listen to, the lyrics get stuck in our heads and we sing the secular music in our minds and comes our of our mouths.
James 3:10
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
When we watch movies with many sexual references or scenes we find ourselves thiking about these things too. The images get stuck in our heads and we aren't thinking about things we should be.
Matthew 5:28
But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Psalm 119:37
Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.
1 John 2:16
For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world.
If we do these things it hurts our souls and minds, and can lead us to do some ungodly and sinful actions. We should surround ourselves with wholesome, Christian, GODLY entertainment. Not the secular, sinful mess we see so much of today.
I know that many of us have seen these shows I keep talking about, many of us also want to escape from the images and words that keep popping up in our minds. We want to look upon things of light, not darkness. Sisters, this prison we have caged ourselves in is escapable. Through prayer and being truly sorry for our sins along with true repentance we can escape.
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
This year, 2015, I hope and pray that we can eliminate these ungodly movies and music from our lives. We can start fresh, we can start living our lives for God, in all aspects including our choice of entertainment.
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
Happy 2015,
Megan
