So sorry this post is coming in so late! I've been so busy the first day of 2015! Anyways I hope we can all gain something from this post today.
So, so far we are working towards letting God lead our steps, and today we are going to see what the word of God has to say about GIVING!
Acts 20:35
In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'
Proverbs 28:27
He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who shuts his eyes will have many curses.
Proverbs 3:27
Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.
Deuteronomy 16:17
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you.
Deuteronomy 15:10
Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to.
Hebrews 13: 1-3
Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.
Now watch out for giving to others with the wrong motives. We never want to think that doing good works is our way into Heaven. Jesus Christ is the only way for us to get into Heaven. NOT good deeds. With that being said we also do not want to do these things for praise - from others, or from God. We do not need to do these things to praise ourselves either. We do need to give to others and have a charitable and generous and compassionate heart. But we need to do them for the right reasons.
We need to give to others simply because we care about them. Because there are people out there that need love and compassion even if it is from a complete stranger. Here are some more scriptures to keep in mind, to make sure we are keeping the right motives:
Matthew 6: 1-5
“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for
you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do
as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their
acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when
you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give
your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. “When you pray, don’t
be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where
everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.
Galatians 1:10
Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing
people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.
Luke 6:46
“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say?
James 1:22
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are
only fooling yourselves.
Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.
Keeping these things in mind, let's have a giving heart, starting in 2015!!
Happy New Years,
Megan
