Each week there will be a new chapter to read! We will not be covering the whole entire Bible, just some key points. This week we will begin with Genesis chapter 46.
In Genesis 46 we see that:
– God spoke to Israel in a vision at night (Genesis 46:1-4)
– Jacob traveled to Egypt with the whole household (Genesis 46:5-7)
– The descendants of Israel who traveled to Egypt (Genesis 46:8-27)
– Jacob met with his son, Joseph (Genesis 46:28-30)
– Joseph instructed his father’s household to say to Pharaoh they are shepherds (Genesis 46:31-34)
The big idea in Genesis 46 is that Israel had faith in God.
Israel (Jacob) trusted in God’s promise and set out to Egypt with the whole household. He knew that they will eventually come back to Canaan, the promised land. God already revealed to Abraham that his descendants will be in a foreign land for 400 years before they come back to Canaan (Genesis 46:13-16). We must trust in God and never doubt in the fulfillment of his promises. If we persevere in our faith, we will be able to see God fulfilling his promise in our lives. Perseverance will build up our faith in God (James 1:3; Hebrews 6:12; 1 Peter 1:7).
